Being a good cat owner isn't just about caring for your feline companion, it's also about adopting eco-responsible practices that reduce your cat's environmental impact.

Eco-friendly designer cat furniture

First and foremost, it's important to choose responsibly produced cat furniture made from recycled/recyclable materials.

When creating Bogarel, Valérie Mounier and Sacha Lakic wanted to contribute to the well-being of cats while limiting their environmental impact. That's why each piece of cat furniture is made from eco-responsible, vegan, PETA-approved and 100% European materials. These natural materials also allow your felines to rediscover the same sensations as in nature.

Wicker spheres woven by French basket-makers

In Haute-Marne, France, specialist craftsmen carefully make the woven wicker spheres for the Stellar and Solar cat kennels. These experts cultivate the soft willows needed for their production themselves. In the whole of Europe, there are only three centres of expertise in wickerwork, and Bogarel works closely with one of these in France. These craftsmen have mastered the art of weaving and are contributing to the revival of this craft sector.

Cat tree cork from protected forests

The cork used for our designer cat trees is harvested in strict accordance with the tree's natural life cycle. This is done every 10 years so that the tree can regenerate throughout its 170-year life. The cork comes from the Dehesa cork oak forest, a natural ecosystem unique in the world, located in Portugal (FSC guaranteed).

Bedding made from recycled bottles

The velvet for the cat furniture cushions is meticulously woven in Italy by seamstresses. The bottles are first cleaned, then transformed into granules, and finally into weaving fibres.

Natural solid wood for responsible furniture

The wooden cat trees are the work of a French woodturner, a craftsman whose manual skills are extremely rare. To guarantee the durability of our creations, we use ash from protected forests in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, certified PEFC* (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes).

5 eco-responsible behaviours to adopt with your cat

1. Opt for natural products

When looking after your cat, opt for natural solutions. Whether it's flea treatments, food supplements or cat hygiene products, there is a multitude of natural alternatives available today. For example, to treat your pet against fleas, you can sprinkle diatomaceous earth.

2. Recycling cat hair

Did you know that you can give your cat's hair a second life? There are 3 ways to reuse it: the quickest and easiest way is to compost it. You can also hang it on branches so that birds can use it to build their nests. Finally, some companies collect the fur and turn it into wool.

3. Manage waste responsibly

Being a responsible cat owner also means using biodegradable bags to collect droppings and dispose of them in an appropriate bin. If you're looking for an even more environmentally friendly option, consider using eco-friendly cat toilets that recycle waste.

4. Use eco-friendly cleaning products

When cleaning your cat's litter box, surfaces or toys, opt for eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning products. Avoid harsh chemicals that can be harmful to the environment and your cat's health.

5. Reduce packaging

When buying food for your cat, look for brands that offer eco-friendly packaging, such as recyclable sachets or bulk food.
